How can I get my 4 year old cat used to my new kitten? My older cat is very territorial/aggressive towards other animals, my kitten is female as is the cat, is there any hope? Help!

I have faced a little bit same situation a year ago, as our cats used to fight pretty ferociously. One day they got very aggressive and I got scared. Though none were actually injured, but it was a very real concern. I bought Feliway Diffuser on my friend's recommendation. Within a few weeks of starting to use the Feliway in two diffusers, our cats settled down dramatically. Not that they are suddenly best of friends, but the fighting has almost disappeared and when they do fight, the viciousness of their fight is greatly reduced. Hmm....well I know your problem. I have four cats currently. I have this cat I adopted from a humane society. I know that she was abused and that is about it. I got a new kitten, and she pretty much hated every animal we had. But I found that if I gave her a safe place ( a box of her own with some cat nip in it or a special place under the bed. She is just mean out of fear of another animal invading her home. But I found that if I sat in the same room with the both of them, with a door closed. After a few minutes they became relaxed with each other in the room. But don't force them to be close to each other, they have to approach on their own time. But after doing this everyday for a few weeks the hissing and chasing stopped. Well not the chasing they grew on each other and tag became fun. But just have patience your older cat will have to accept the kitten on its own time and terms.
