Reading me the riot act. I had an ex who did this every day to couple of days. It was also cumulative: what was on yesterday's riot act was often on today's riot act. The only way to shorten that day's riot act was, if I could stand to do it, "agree" with her. If not, do not try to defend myself... just wait it out. Trying to defend myself or explain my point of view did nothing but extend and inflame the riot act, adding more to the itinerary or the next riot act. http://www.answerbag.com/profile/?id=145316 <---------- never reads me the riot act. If there is a problem between us, we actually discuss both sides and come to a resolution. We have been together for years and we believe this is a "for the rest of our lives" sort of thing. She is fantastic in that she realizes that I have PTRA (post traumatic riot act) and my hackles go up easily. She reminds me that she is not my ex, no riot act is forthcoming, and I settle right down.
