A lipoma is a benign growth which does not become malignant (cancerous). Treatment is not usually required, but they may be surgically excised if they become difficult to live with, either due to discomfort from pain/inflammation or simply for cosmetic reasons. A dermatologist would likely be the most appropriate specialist to consult with if you wish to discuss your options. Good luck!
