Sometimes I get the urge to kiss my boyfriend while in public, but we haven't been dating all that long and I don't know how he feels about public displays of affection. I feel stupid just asking, how else can I find out?

Test the waters so to speak. Start by giving him a quick peck on the lips or cheek and see how he responds. If he seems uncomfortable, that should indicate that he is a non-PDA type of person. If he returns the kiss or seems comfortable, then he probably doesn't mind. However, you shouldn't feel stupid for asking since you care enough about his feeling to ask in the first place. Honestly even if you havn't been going out with this guy for very long if he's willing to call you his girlfriend than stuff like this shouldn't be too awkward. it might be if suddenly you're like how do you feel about pda? completely out of the blue, but not if you ease into it in a joking fashion. Start with a story about some couple you saw doing pda or some such and then jokingly be like what do you think about pda. Or another fun way is to kiss him when theres no one or not that many people around the jokingly say too much pda for you with a laugh and a smile. He'll either tell you never or be like not when theres no one around ect.. from that you should have your answer.

Try something a bit less obvious first, like holding his hand and see how he responds. Or next time you feel like kissing him in public say "Can I kiss you?".

Is it a French kiss or just a quick kiss on the lips ? If it's a quick kiss on the lips, you can just do it, no need to ask. You didn't say where in public place, is it in the Mall, at the restaurant, on the street, in the amusement park ? I would wait until you get in the car and kiss him there. If you are in the club, you can kiss while dancing, I saw people kiss all the time while slow dancing.
