My husband is a musician. It comes differently to him at different times. Sometimes he'll read a story (most recently a Kahlil Gibran parable) and lyrics will just come to him. Sometimes he's sitting in traffic and a new riff pops into his head, and it can take years before he has matching lyrics. Even other times, he'll have one part, and one of his band mates will come up with another, and somehow the two halves match!
