  • Has anything changed in the yard or nearby recently? New plantings? New structures? New neighbors? Dogs can hear and smell a lot more than we do, especially beagles, perhaps he is smelling/hearing something new and it frightens him. The best I can suggest is to try to get him used to the yard again. Spend time out there, try to make reassure him, treats should work to entice him out. Baby steps, everytime he takes a step into the yard he gets praise and a little treat.
  • Don't pet him or act like he's affecting you. Be positive, walk him out there and refocus him when he starts to act nervous. Can he stay out there by himself? If not, take him out when he absolutely has to go. That's all I would know.
  • Something may have startled him while he was out there. Go out there with him, play games with him, etc...so he sees the yard as enjoyable. I personally think it is better for you and your dog to go on walks, in addition to playing in the yard. I walk my dog 3 times a day, about 30 minutes each time. One reason for this is my dog is primarily white, and white dogs tend to be sensitive to sunlight (mine is). I mention this because most of the beagles I have see have a lot of white on them.
