The answer is really position dependent.
Strikers get the most glory because they score goals and appear to be the game winners. If you look at consistent, creative play at the individual positions, it's hard to overlook players like Carvalho (Chelsea), Lampard (Chelsea), Cech (Chelsea), C. Ronaldo (ManU), Kuyt (Liverpool), I could go on and on.....
