Last month a judge ignored sentencing guidelines and increased a pregnant HIV+ woman's sentence to keep her in jail until the baby was born. The sole reason was supposedly to ensure prenatal care. Good idea? Or was it a violation of her rights?

I'm sure the judge felt that an innocent child who could not speak up for their own rights outweighed the mother's rights in such a case.

Without knowing further details, I would say that it was a very well intentioned violation of the mother's rights.

It was a violation of her rights. If the judge really cared he could have seen to it someone was appointed to watch over her once released.
