How do you measure how much ethanol is in wine not from a bottle, if you are making the wine and you want to know the result of how much ethanol is in it... does ABV work?

Before you add the yeast take a reading with a hydrometer this will tell you the potential alcohol. After the ferment is complete take another reading. Subtract the last from the first and you will have you final alcohol content.
