What about the correlation between Inuyasha's white hair and the children who were chimney sweeps in Scotland? They were mistreated, and sometimes left for dead in the chimneys. Because of their exposure to soot, their hair turned white.

white hair is a characterization thing in anime to make a character seem more than human (which inuyasha is). Inuyasha is very much Japanese, in origins, in character design, and in nationality. While it is an interesting bit of history, in all likelihood neither Rumiko Takahashi nor the character designers on the Inuyasha cartoon knew about Scottish chimney sweeps.
