  • Manners are never archaic unless used inappropriately, like to impress only. Informal should be so and formal as well.

  • Manners must never become archaic. A civilization without manners is not one I could be a part of. Manners are a reflection of culture and refinement, tradition and values. Without manners, we are little more than barbarians.
  • Perhaps the man walking on the outside of the sidewalk with the lady on the inside. It started when the roads were all mud, before pavement....to protect the lady's dress from being splashed by passing horses and wagons. My dad still doe that...but it does seem to have died out generally.
  • Table manners arnt archaic. If I've been able to keep my elbows off the table for my entire life, I'm sure other people can. My kids can and do respect dining manners.
  • Switching a fork from left hand (where it was holding something being cut) to right hand beore picking up food. Most Americans still do this, although I have been told that using the left to place the food in the mouth, without all the transferring, is European.
  • to be honest I don't find any manners archaic, I am of the older generation and manners were everything and still are... I have found the lack of manners in todays generations very sad and really quite pathetic as it tends to show how selfish and self centred they really are

We have chopsticks next to our sporks at our table.
