  • Let's back up: What do YOU like to do? What are YOU good at? Going the ROTC route is great, but are you college material? Enlisting will get you in sooner and finished sooner unless you are planning to make the Army your career. Then, I'd probably think seriously about ROTC. Good Luck in whatever you decide! I'm partial to Infantry!
  • go for ROTC, you do have to sign a longer active duty contract but its much better
  • Talk to your local recruiter. They can help you with all your military questions. I was a volunteer worker with the United States Naval Sea Cadet Corps for many years. This organization is for ages 11 through 17 who want to develop their skills in a military environment. I highly recommend it. http://www.seacadets.org/public/
  • If you are a motivated person who wants to go to college anyway, do NOT go in as enlisted as I did after listening to the sweet-talking recruiters. If I personally had a do-over I'd go to college then enlist as an officer. The job depends on what you like to do - there are parallels for nearly all civilian jobs - what the military needs, and what your recruiter can sucker you for.
  • What is your career path? Do you want to be career Army or is the Army just a waystation on your path to something else? If you are just here for a short stay, might as well be enlisted. If you are going career, go officer as officers have longer service obligations.
