no, they cannot sink. Unless, of course, they deliberately drown themselves by lying face down in the water. I think, however, the saltiness would prevent them staying like that for long.
-
hmmm since you float... I think maybe if you swallow a lot of that highly salty sea water, youll eventually go insane and kill yourself. so technically yes?
-
you absolutley can drown. There is enough fluid to block your breathing
-
I suppose they can, but it would be fairly difficult. The water feels oily and it is very bitter.
-
Yes, but you'll be preserved forever, just like the "scrolls".

Of course, doesn't take much water to drown a person regardless of where they are or what kind of water it is, fresh, salty or extra salty. It is the quantity of water blocking the airways and filling the lungs that causes drowning not the quality of the water or it's location, (other than being on the inside of a person's lungs).

It's possible, but unlikely since you can just float in the dead sea and read a news-paper.
-
If you try hard enough
-
Absolutely. Just because you float on the Dead Sea better than in other water has no affect on whether or not you can drown. If you were to lie on your stomach with you face in the water and breath in, for example, you could drown. If you were to pass out and fall in facing the water is another way you could do it. Or, it is possible for someone to hold your head under water until you drown. I believe it is entirely possible to drown in the Dead Sea.

Thanks to everyone for all of your answers. I find this body of water very fascinating.
-
Yes. It is possible to drown in any body of water deep enough to submerge your head. You just need to make an effort in the Dead Sea.

heck no!!!!!!!!!!!!! r u kiddin me

"Beware! Several people drown every year in the Dead Sea because they do not obey the rule: Only float on your back. Accidents happens when someone tries to swim normally (stomach first) in the water - the legs will float better than usual and the head will be submerged. Also, the salt in the water stings cuts and causes great pain if it comes in contact with the eyes, adding to the panic if one's head is under water."
