  • Do you have any unpaid credit cards or other loans that you've defaulted on? Lost in court and didn't pay? They can automatically put a judgment against your property (it depends on what state you live in actually, laws vary from state to state)....go to your county court house and "buy" (doesn't cost much, about a dollar a page or less usually) a copy of any and all documentation filed there concerning this. It might turn out that it's all a mistake and the judgment belongs to someone else who has the same name as you. Judgments last 20 years, they can garnish your paycheck or snatch the money owed out of your bank account without warning so DO follow through - call an attorney in your area after you get your hands on copies of all the paperwork and see if they (if you do owe the money) can make an 'offer in compromise' to settle the debt for a fraction of the cost.
  • This sounds like a lien by somebody who did work on your home and was not paid for it. It would be filed at the County Clerk's office. Go there and give them your address to do a search of property records for your home.
