  • That's a good question. I think it's because "germs" have a harder time surviving in colder temps ... could be one reason.
  • Hospitals are businesses. They're out to make money and not give services away. Besides, nowadays, doctors have a superiority complex. Why do you think they are always late?
  • Bacteria grows faster in warm temps and slower in cold temps. They keep it cold to keep infection down.
  • I believe bacteria reproduce every twenty minutes at 70 degrees Fahrenheit. Under ideal food, water, and temperature conditions hospitals would be a hot bed for bacteria if they were warmer.
  • If you are talking weather it's because germs thrive in warm weather and so they keep it cooler. This is why the OR's are like ice..to keep infections away. It does seem like they would make them warm in the winter and I am not sure how all that works but that is what a nurse told me one time.
  • Probably because warm places are a perfect breeding ground for germs. Plus it's easier to pile on blankets to get warmer than try and cool comeone down that may have a high fever or something.
  • Germs thrive and spread better in the heat; that's why they keep it cold.
  • It might be that you aren't moving as much and they just seem colder than you normally think it should be(inpatient)and as others have said, germs produce more in higher temps.
