When I ask them a vaguely intelligent question
-
Usually about 3 seconds longer than it takes him/her to discover that I'm a complete idiot...
-
If I've made that discovery, I won't even start conversation with them. It doesn't take me too long - the vacant facial expressions usually give it away. I'm smart like that.
-
When i am talking to a certain person i know, a millisecond.

4 or 5 seconds. Most idiots insult me within that space of time, else stare at my arse or boobs, neither of which are big enough or on show enough to warrant such attention.

It doesnt usually take long at all.

If I'm talking to them personally, face to face rather than over the internet, it takes anything from seconds to years. People can be idiots in different ways, and someone who first seems to not be an idiot can turn out to be a candidate for the World's biggest idiot.

Depending on the particular idiot, somewhere in the area of 3-5 seconds. Even if they don't say anything blatantly idiotic in the space of that time, I can usually tell fairly easily by expression, demeanor, etc.

Seconds, people that are only idiots in one or two aspects of thier lives maybe a little longer, but complete idiot , only seconds

A few seconds is usually enough.

Not long at all. The first impression usually does it for me.

Instantly!

See, this is actually something I've looked into and averaged XD Usually, I can tell whether or not the person I'm conversing with is intelligent within an average of 11.4 seconds! ^_^ No joke
-
The first sentence if they are a Complete Jackass. A while longer if they are an Intelligent Idiot like Bush.
-
right about the time it takes for them to open there mouth
-
A minute or two.

I can tell when they forget to take a breath in to start a sentence or anytime in the next 5 minutes of babbling.
