Damn!did that pompous, piece-o'-crap corporation buy out another decent coffee shop? I liked the Independent(or Caribou)WAY better! OK I'll have LARGE(not tall, venti, or Grande', this is still my country for a bit and I don't want to "play" wanna-be-Euro-trash!)Double-shot Redeye(OK I recognize that blank stare; that's simply two or more shots of Espresso in a large cup of coffee. NO steamed milk, soy,ice,cream, or any thing else.)Thank you*pay* NO I don't need room in there for cream or anything just a little sugar I'll add myself. Have a nice day!

- I admire that but sadly Starsmucks is such a powerhouse giant round these parts that real coffee houses either can't compete or get swallowed up by 'em. The last bastion of competition is Caribou Coffee which wouldn't surprise me if it was owned by the same corporate greed.

- I like Starbucks, but I was extremely disappointed when they bought a coffee shop that sold veggie-burgers that were actually good. The shop had books sitting around to read.
  
  Then wham! Starbucks took over. The worst part was there is a Starbucks about every 3 blocks in Chicago!
  
  Would it have been so bad to leave a gap in the coverage and leave one independent?
  
  The nearest Starbucks is 6 blocks away, quel dommage!

- I LOVE your answer and it's SO much like what I posted before I read this. Don't you wish those pompous Euro-trash-wanna-bees could at the very least just have normal sizes without all the pretense?!?I like plain coffee just a little sweet but strong like bull. I always feel I get looked at like a criminal when I order a depth-charged, red-eye or black-eye(basically the exact same thing, a few shots of Espresso(super dark plain coffee)in a cup of coffee. No Frappa Mocha Yadda Yadda! I'm lactose intolerant and like coffee, is that wrong?

- It means that they make the drink literally upside down, caramel on bottom up to the coffee. It is less bitter so all the ingrediants mixed better. If I can't get it that way I almost cry.

- @morgen I do not love whipped cream so having it mixed in is better for me. @oldschool I have a very elaborate explanation for my Tuesday hatred: Mon: just getting back in the routine, day goes fast. Tues is just there. Ugh. Weds= Hump day Thurs you can say tomorrow is Friday and Friday is Friday. =)

- old school, i am sad to say your baristas must be dense. figures. i'm over on another question trying to defend your state (it's california versus texas) and part of my arguement is based on the assumption that there's probably more smart people running around oregon's mexico. ;) we're your canada, BTW. that's really what started that. anyhow... the baristas here didn't even look at me odd when i order it upside down. although, i am a self-admitted coffee addict and i frequent a number of coffee shops. the particular starbucks that i went to tends to get more complicated orders than some of the others. apparantly, corporate business types and lawyers are more picky with their bean juice. well, that's the theory i have going anyhow.

- alas, almost all starbucks have switched to automatic coffee/expresso machine thingies and are unable to make ristretto. If they say they can, and the machine is automatic, they are lying. They're just giving you half a shot of expresso. I vote we all go to Italy for some real coffee!

- yeah, my big trips have been canada and mexico - nice, but same continent. my hubby went to italy with his high school - I think I'll be able to get him to go back, based on how much he reminisces about it :oP I read a book called umm...I'll tell you later 'cause it's in my daughter's room, but it was cool, described the cafe and restaurant scene :o) loved it! - alayla, i would think this version would make the caramel mix in more quickly into the latte's flavor. although, the point of a carmamel macchiato (some say) -- is for it to be a layered drink. personally, i like that part & the mixing of vanilla with real caramel sauce. yum!

- Stewie,I may have a hard time with video, but I have a ton of great sound bytes saved on my computer from Movies, TV, you name it,including some priceless "Stewie" stuff. I wish I could post THOSE here. I'd send you the one where he grabs the P.A. mike and says"Attention world!...Meet My demands, or be destroyed!" or "Omnipotence, I gotta get me some of that!" I use those so they auto-open when my friends and family get emails from me. I also have some very funny,but,"colorful" ones that would probably just get flagged here. If there's a safe way to get your email address here I'd be happy to send ya a bunch of samples. That Leary bit really made my day!

- lol ristretto is like cappucino only twice the coffe and half the pull. It's the sweetest, richest part of coffee - it tastes the way coffe smells, no bitter flavor. So I like four shots of that, over ice, with hazelnut flavoring, and half-and-half (breve). One of those will keep an elephant wired for a month!

- Yes, it's a pretty interesting program. It makes some interesting points. It also dispels some myths about ancient cultures and show that some, like the Greeks, who are so admired for their sexual freedoms weren't really all that free and some practices that we find abhorrent today were considered acceptable then. Things like pedophilia which is even a Greek word.

- You pick a movie you want to watch and it downloads onto your computer and you watch it like a streaming video. You can't copy it or send it but you can watch it. - yeah, being drunk really helps me pick up on all the symbolism in movies and what not. actually, there is one potential bonus: if you are so drunk that you don't remember the movie, you can watch it a 2nd time and it's like new again! i've had this happen with good and bad movies. luckily, the other people there had working memories, so i didn't bother watching the bad movies a 2nd time. and, now i think i've shared enough for the day!

- I own stock in Steak and Shake, and when I go there, which is often, will never order a steakburger, but a hamburger despite what the menu says. Has nothing to do with Starbucks. Order the coffee that way no matter where it's ordered from, even my own kitchen. Besides, Tall is the shortest and Vinti and whatever doesn't tell you what they are. No matter, been probably over a year since ordering a Starbucks drink, anyway.

Just a non-fat cappuccino for me.

I prefer it made with regular milk (it makes better foam than the non-fat stuff does) but I'm trying to watch the fat and calories of my drinks... so non-fat it is.
