When visiting a malarial zone e.g.Tanzania, should you take anti-malarial tablets even though there's a good chance of side affects,or should you just buy the malarial cure in a local pharmacy and just take that when you feel a little unwell just in case?

Take doxycycline 100 mg daily. There are very few, mild side-efects possible. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

visit someone who has malaria and decide then how badly do you really want to visit Tanzania? If so....I think i'd opt for the cure...might as well have fun while you there...without side effects....

I think this is a question more for your personal physician and not for AB since there are so many factors to consider and possible (bad) consequences either way.
