Yes! I'd never expected it. Iim so used to hating Snape's guts that I don't have much sympathy for him. Why did he have to be mean to Harry anyway? Couldn't he have shown some compassion. I mean I know that he hated James and Harry looks like James, but he was supposed to protect Harry for Lily. She probably would have wanted Snape to be nice to her son.

I suspected that Snape was not all bad. If he was, why did he end the penultimate book by giving Harry advice? He said something like "How do you expect to defeat Voldemort if you warn him of the spell you're about to use by speaking it aloud?" On the other hand I didn't know why exactly. I did guess that it was Dumbledore's idea that Snape should kill him though.
