  • On "The Storytellers" DVD, Springteen says that he just sat down one day with a ryming dictionary and wrote a song about his life. Springsteen was heavily influenced by Bob Dylan in his early years and it certainly shows on this song. Compare it to Bob Dylan's "Subterranean Homesick Blues", which goes in part. "Don't wear sandals Try to avoid the scandals Don't wanna be a bum You better chew gum The pump don't work 'Cause the vandals took the handles" ... You can see the same machine gun, eclectic style lyrics in these two songs. Here are the lyrics to “Blinded by the Light” : “Madman drummers bummers and Indians in the summer with a teenage diplomat In the dumps with the mumps as the adolescent pumps his way into his hat With a boulder on my shoulder feelin' kinda older I tripped the merry-go-round With this very unpleasing sneezing and wheezing the calliope crashed to the ground Some all-hot half-shot was headin' for the hot spot snappin' his fingers clappin' his hands And some fleshpot mascot was tied into a lover's knot with a whatnot in her hand And now young Scott with a slingshot finally found a tender spot and throws his lover in the sand And some bloodshot forget-menot whispers daddy's within earshot save the buckshot turn up the band And she was blinded by the light. Cut loose like a deuce Another runner in the night. Blinded by the light She got down but she never got tight, but she'll make it alright Some brimstone baritone anticyclone rolling stone preacher from the east He says "Dethrone the dictaphone, hit it in its funny bone, that's where they expect it least" And some new-mown chaperone was standin' in the corner all alone watchin' the young girls dance And some fresh-sown moonstone was messin' with his frozen zone to remind him of the feeling of romance Yeah he was blinded by the light. Cut loose like a deuce Another runner in the night. Blinded by the light He got down but she never got tight, but he's gonna make it tonight Some silicone sister with her manager's mister told me I got what it takes She said I'll turn you on sonny to something strong if you play that song with the funky break And go-cart Mozart was checkin' out the weather chart to see if it was safe to go outside And little Early-Pearly came in by her curly-wurly and asked me if I needed a ride Oh, some hazard from Harvard was skunked on beer playin' backyard bombardier Yes and Scotland Yard was trying hard, they sent a dude with a calling card, He said, do what you like, but don't do it here Well I jumped up, spit in the air, fell on the ground, asked wich was the way back home He said take a right at the light, keep going straight until right, and then boy you're on your own And now in Zanzibar a shootin' star was ridin' in a side car hummin' a lunar tune Yes, and the avatar said blow the bar but first remove the cookie jar, we're gonna teach those boys to laugh too soon And some kidnapped handicap was complaining that he caught the clap from some mousetrap he bought last night Well I unsnapped his skull cap and between his ears I saw a gap but he'd figured he'd be all right He was just blinded by the light. Cut loose like a deuce Another runner in the night. Blinded by the light Mama always told me not to look into the sights of the sun Oh but mama that's where the fun is”.
  • Here are the lyrics:Blinded by the light, revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night Blinded by the light, revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night Blinded by the light, revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night Madman drummers bummers, Indians in the summer with a teenage diplomat In the dumps with the mumps as the adolescent pumps his way into his hat With a boulder on my shoulder, feelin' kinda older, I tripped the merry-go-round With this very unpleasin', sneezin' and wheezin, the calliope crashed to the ground The calliope crashed to the ground But she was... Blinded by the light, revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night ============== First of all the line is "revved up like a deuce" ie a Deuce Coupe. The song is essentially about a girl who is being tempted by fame. She is "blinded by the light", her heart is racing, full of expectation of success and stardom. The narrator, who has been there before, sees the world of Hollywood as crazy "Madman drummers bummers, Indians in the summer with a teenage diplomat In the dumps with the mumps as the adolescent pumps his way into his hat With a boulder on my shoulder, feelin' kinda older, I tripped the merry-go-round With this very unpleasin', sneezin' and wheezin, the calliope crashed to the ground The calliope crashed to the ground" and he hasn't achieved stardom..he has failed...but the girl cannot see this...she is still "blinded by the light" He tells his experiences: "Some silicone sister with a manager mister told me I go what it takes She said "I'll turn you on sonny to something strong, play the song with the funky break" And go-cart Mozart was checkin' out the weather chart to see if it was safe outside And little Early-Pearly came by in his curly-wurly and asked me if I needed a ride Asked me if I needed a ride" Plenty of promises, false people, people with something to offer...things that don't pan out. but the girl is still "blinded by the light" She's determined to stick it out, and make it: She got down but she never got tired She's gonna make it through the night She's gonna make it through the night He tries to warn her: Mama always told me not to look into the eye's of the sun But mama, that's where the fun is Some brimstone baritone anticyclone rolling stone preacher from the east Says, "Dethrone the dictaphone, hit it in it's funny bone, that's where they expect it least" And some new-mown chaperone was standin' in the corner, watching the young girls dance And some fresh-sown moonstone was messin' with his frozen zone, reminding him of romance The calliope crashed to the ground" But the girl is not listening;she still goes on, "blinded by the light"
  • There was something about that light that was inspiring to her in the song. That light gave her hope, and it gave her joy.
  • I have come to the conclusion that it is not a song that needs to be understood just enjoyed. I always enjoy singing along and I have just read the previous answers and I have got some of the lyrics wrong (LOL), but I still like singing along...
  • sounds like LSD induced lyrics
  • I'm goin' by the manfred man's earth band version here and i have no idea what it means but here is something i did find interesting about the the lyrics. The line "the calliope crashed to the ground" the definition of calliope is a steam organ, but Kalliope is the muse of heroic poetry, and the whole song could be attempting some thing like that. But maybe thats just reaching, at first i thought the lyrics were wrapped up like a douche another roller in the night, not, revved up like a duece another runner in the night. may be it could even be about a hit and run accident, with all these other surreal kind of goings on around or in some weird relation to the event. "And little Early-Pearly came by in his curly-wurly and asked me if I needed a ride Asked me if I needed a ride But she was... Blinded by the light, revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night." and these next lines could really support that: "With a boulder on my shoulder, feelin' kinda older, I tripped the merry-go-round With this very unpleasin', sneezin' and wheezin, the calliope crashed to the ground". or i could be wrong and its nothing at all like that, but thats why music's great its open for interpretation.
  • A deuce is a car, a 1932 ford coupe. Reved up like a hot rod would be one way of thinking of it.
  • if its the song by the streets its about drugs
  • umm im pretty sure i heard a dj explain it was about a streetracer that smashed into a car killing the woman , the car had a couple in it. she as blinded by the light, another runner in the night, the reved up douce, alot of other things hint at it being a streetracer hot rod, will, thats what i heard awhile ago, im set on what that song means. said the artist performed it because of a friends girl that died in a car accident because of streetracer. streetracer is checking the weather conditions outside, the adolescent kid inthe car going too fast. so many things hinting at a joyride or streetrace. the person asking curly wurly if she needed a ride. but i could be wrong reved up Like a decuce isnt a revved up deuce exactly is it.. oh well i like it being a song about streetracing hehe, im going to keep it as that.
