I've been near a few, especially here in upstate New York. I've had friends lose their homes and businesses ruined and I've helped with the clean up and rebuilding when needed. Our home itself has never been threatened however we almost lost our road to our house when our beaver dam broke and the road flooded.

Oh yeah, we had water up to my hips in Bensenville, Illinois and I lived through Hurricane Andrew in Florida.

Yup, with 5 friends stranded at my house, and we had to feed them all for a while. That was interesting.
