  • You can do a LOT. There's always paperwork to be filed, buttons to be pushed, phones to answer. But in all seriousness, take the Asvab, it'll tell you what you'd be best suited for.
  • If i was you i'd find a recruitment centre and just ask in there there are going to want you to join so should be very helpful.
  • In general, women can fill nearly EVERY role in the military that men historically have. Currently, about the only thing I can think of where women are still excluded in the Navy are submarines. That's because they were designed BEFORE this was a consideration and thus there are no provisions for separate berthing and heads (bathrooms). It is possible for the Ohio class SSBN's to be converted, I believe...they are large enough that it could conceivably be done. Now, as a reault of President Bush's initiatives, two Virginia Class submairnes have been designated to have women aboard as part of the crew. This means that those two submarines WILL be designed/built with facilities to support a mixed crew. As for your physical abilities: you just have to be fully capable of performing the duties associated with your job. As a high school graduate, for example, you could become a nuclear trained operator for the nuclear powered ships. The rates for these are Reactor Operator, Electrical Operator, Mechanical Operator, and Engineering Laboratory Technician (who is also a Mechanical Operator). The schooling is HARD, CONTINUOUS, and will take you about 1 1/2 to 2 years to complete before you are sent to sea. See a recruiter. Better yet, see ALL the recruiters. Recruiters are in constant competition over new recruits, so shop around! Play them off on each other and remember: YOU make the decision, NOT THEM. Oh...and visit their web sites for more info. And if you know of anyone in the military personally, TALK TO THEM! Good luck!
  • In the Army, you could do pretty much anything except combat arms. Combat support and combat service support rarely have physical standards so harsh as to exclude the average female from entering. Don't ask "What could I do?" but "What to I like to do?" or "What do I want to learn to do?" The only Army jobs I can think of that require prior experience is bandsman (playing musical instruments in an Army band). Every other field will teach you what you need to know to start mastering the job. Army work is about 20% training at a school and 80% OJT/experience.
