in a RWD most of your breaking is done by the front brakes , as for FWD it depends on how the proportioning valves operate but I would think the same applies as a RWD as to braking

The majority of the braking in any car is handled by the front brakes whether you have FWD, RWD or AWD. The proportions or brake bias (what percentage of the braking force that is taken by the front and back) is set up differently on every car since they have different weights in different areas as well as different brakes. If too much force is applied to the rear, when the weight shifts forward under braking the rear wheels will skid (think of when you ride your bike and use the rear brake). This problem is non-existant with the front brakes although brakes will lock-up given enough force. Most cars are set up to have a brake bias around 70/30 (70% front/30% rear) to 80/20.
