  • We use Advantage on our cats and it works beautifully. It's more expensive than a flea collar, but when you figure how little a pet really costs you in a year, it's worth it. You may also have fleas in your residence. If you do, they'll find her. I've heard a way to test for this is to place a bowl of water on the floor. The theory is they'll jump and you can see them. I have no idea if this works. If you do have rogue fleas, you can bug-bomb the residence (remove the cat!) or sprinkle some Borax over the floor, let it sit for a bit and then vaccum it up. Should solve the problem.
  • Like you we had a bad problem with fleas on our two dogs last year and had tried lots of solutions. We finally called our vet and besides getting Advantage (which we hadn't wanted to use on one dog for health reasons) she gave us a pill that killed all the fleas within hours on both dogs. It was about $10/pill, but it was well worth it.
  • It can cause a serious medical problem. Take her to the vet right away, as this can be very dangerous to a cat. Your entire house will have to be treated in order to get rid of them. It is a two - treatment process (at least) because the eggs hatch after the first application and have to be treated again.
  • I'd get some Neem oil and make up some spray and use it once a week to get rid of the fleas. It's not toxic and won't hurt your cat at all, isn't expensive and really works well. Make your own Neem oil flea spray by mixing 1 ounce of Neem oil with 2 ounces of white vinegar and 5 ounces of water. Shake the bottle to mix the ingredients before. Spray your pet well with the mixture every 7 to 10 days and brush him after spraying to work the solution through his fur and to his skin. Spray your pet's bedding with the same solution. You can add a few drops of oil to your pet shampoo just before you're going to bathe them. And also try pouring a small amount of Neem oil into your hand and massage it full strength into your pets fur and down to her skin. Not only does this work for controlling fleas, but it also keeps his coat shiny and healthy.
