Where people exist, and work, and interact, there will always be politics. Do you mean should church leaders not say anything about social or political issues? Then I say they should. Christ defended those who could not defend themselves. Christians have a duty to be the "salt" of the earth. Do you mean that church leaders should try to force their congregations to vote one way or another-no. People are mostly informed enough to make up their minds based on evidence given. they are also aware that there are christians on all sides of the political spectrum.
-
Yes, but I don't think the church has a place in politics.
-
Well, it does look as if they "go hand in hand" but, neither will admit to such a relationship. Personally, my answer would be a "no" to politics in church and that would go the other way as well - "no" to the church being involved in politics.
-
Perhaps. I don't think it would do any harm to elect a church leader.
-
Actually, I believe ethics has a place in the church. Politics as a part of life must also involve ethics, therefore yes, I do belive politics has a place in the church. However, I do not believe the church has a place in politics--i.e. I do not think the church should play directly in politics. The church is not a political entity. Its influence over politics should come only from its ability to guide its followers through example and teaching. The church has no business telling you to vote for x not y.

no to politics in the church, and no church in government.
-
People's religion should mot certainly NOT effect the government in any way.

Put simply, no they should not. Not in the Christian church. Just look at the example of Christ Jesus when he was on earth. He set the standard for his followers. There are powerful reasons why God’s true servants, sincere followers of Jesus Christ, must keep separate from the political part of Satan’s world, from all nationalism and politics. Are not these also opposed to God’s kingdom? When standing before the representative of the Roman Empire, Pontius Pilate, Jesus testified: “My kingdom is no part of this world. If my kingdom were part of this world, my attendants would have fought that I should not be delivered up to the Jews. But, as it is, my kingdom is not from this source.” (John 18:36) Since neither Jesus nor his followers were part of the political world back there, neither may Jesus’ followers be today. As the apostle Peter so well notes, Christians are aliens and temporary residents. (1 Pet. 2:11) In keeping with that fact are the words of the apostle Paul at Philippians 3:20, showing that the citizenship of Christ’s true followers is in the heavens. That is why the Christian witnesses of Jehovah do not engage in politics, nor do they buy or carry political party cards.

Only in casual conversation. No political platform should be endorsed by a church. However I think often people say "No church in government" really mean "Religious people shouldn't vote" I've heard too many times that I shouldn't vote a way just because of my religion. I completly disagree I can vote in whatever way i want for whatever reason I want. If I want to vote for someone simpily because I like their hair color its my choice.
-
Yes, it does. Humans are, much like their fellow apes, heirarchial in nature. To say the church should be free from internal politics i to say the church should be free of congregation.

Everything is political on some level. You can't escape it, especially in a free society like the USA. Many have said here that the church has no place in politics, or that the church (or churches) should have no influence in government policy. This is flat out wrong! Churches have just as much right as any other group to lobby the government for their interests. They have every right to speak out on issues, especially moral ones, without fear of censorship or reprisal from the government, or those who oppose their beliefs. Our consitution is written to protect against the establishment of a state religion. No matter how many Christians (or Jews, or Catholics) are elected to congress, they cannot pass a law saying that everyone must adhere to Christian doctrines. There is nothing in the consitution saying you cannot express your religious beliefs in the political spectrum, however.
