Many generations ago there was a potato famine,and many people were starving.The economy was extremely bad so many immigrated to America for a better life.When they arrived life was still difficult for them,but better than in Ireland at that time.

Which Decades? During the 80's the economy was crap so there were many irish emmigrants. Before that the potato famine (during the 1800's) resulted in mass emigration

Some Irish have been in America since at leat 1700. Over the centuries, vast numbers of poor peasant farmers emmigrated to North America in the hope of getting a better life. Up until the late 20th Century, Southern Ireland was a mostly poor agricultural country.
