My teachers were never stupid enough to think I was going no where ... They all knew that I (a high school drop out) would be successful ... And today, even my college professors' would agree.

a few teachers used to tell me I would never achieve anything in life...if I didnt take school seriously...and dig into the books. Whatever. I know all I need to know, I have all that I could ever want. Im very happy with my life...Ive completed alot of my personal Goals...I know myself....And I am not a failure. BUT then again, I had teachers who really strived to teach...put passion in their teaching, and really wanted kids to excell....THEY WERE GOOD TEACHERS. You cannot tell a kid "YOU BETTER, OR..."...CUZ THAT doesnt work. Its the teachers who inspire...that know how to teach. Not about books, but...more...about life.

I guess I saw things differently because I went back to school later in life and wasn't so impressed by college anymore. That statement is a statement of belief in an educational monopoly. I was actually taught to say that in college, and I refused. I worked in a college for a while, and the particular college I worked in was working a pretty clever scam at the time. They herded as many freshman into the college as they could each year and took their financial aid. Some of the kids they took later proved to have what we used to call mental retardation. They didn't care if these kids dropped out, they'd gotten a year of financial aid out of them. They refused to flunk them out. They just kept them as long as they were willing to stay and kept taking their financial aid until they ran out of it, then they dumped them with no education and student loans to pay. That president has since left and the new one has long since cleaned up their act and turned it into a respectable college. That experience taught me that colleges have a lot of stake in how many people they can herd through the doors. It is in their own interest to teach kids that they are a failure if they don't go to college. They use their teacher colleges to teach teachers to say it to their students. They teach politicians to say it too. Professors are often seen as the most intelligent people in society, so many people swallow what they say without questioning it. It is a terrible conflict of interest. Truthfully, society would collapse without plumbers and electricians and carpenters and mechanics. We need people to do laundry for hospitals and to cook in schools. Those are useful and respectable jobs. You may not have the same amount of money as a doctor or a teacher, but you are still earning a paycheck and serving your fellow man. Those people are necessary and useful and deserving of respect. So don't worry about what some college professor thinks about your worth. It isn't for him to decide. Its God to decide. By judging your worth, he is putting himself in danger of judgment and will have to answer to God for it.

I like that you asked this question. I got the notion from teachers if you wanted to be someone you had to go to a university.. you weren't as good if you planned on attending a community college. I felt so much pressure! Education is becoming a religion... I am sorry but there is no one on earth who can attain all there is to know.
