I have never been homeless, just in between places! LOL... I know a lot of homeless people and they are great.

I am from South Louisiana, you can't throw a stick an not hit someone who wasn't or still is homeless.
-
I have been homeless on occasions, though thankfully there has always been someone willing to let me crash on their couch. My friend Jason is homeless (crazy Jase)

i met a homeless guy once who called himself judas, as in the guy that betrayed jesus, he claimed he was THAT judas and had been wandering the earth since. i'd seen him the day before a few miles away so when he walked into wendy's to get out of the cold my friends and i bought him dinner and talked to him for about an hour. he was very interesting and very grateful for the meal.

Yes, there are homeless people all across town. I hate to admit it, but when I was younger, someone thought I was homeless and was willing to take me in. It was the nicest thing. Some of them are really cool, and their animals are so happy. I mean, full time attention almost.

I have known homeless people, but never been homeless myself. An old buddy of mine used to live under the stairs of (someplace) when the weather was cold and in the woods during better times. And in San Diego, there were a couple of homeless guys I used to hang with a lot. It was nice knowing I could pass out drunk on the sidewalk for a few hours, wake up, and find my unlocked $600 bike still where I left it. Friends are good ;)

I don't know if what I was really qualified as homeless; when I was nineteen, I had gotten evicted from an apartment I shared with my future wife, and rather than face up to my parents and ask to come home, I lived on the beach for the summer. On rainy nights I slept in my car. Ultimately, though, I did have somewhere I could have gone. When I lived in Philadelphia, I made friends with a lot of the homeless around my building. I used to loan them blankets when it was cold (and do laundry for them), and buy them cigs and food. They were very nice, and really added something to my life.

Yes, I was about 11 years ago. Looooong story.

yes, there was a sweet old guy in the church grounds, when my husband was employed at Liverpool Anglican. Everyone used to look after him, coz he was a fixture. We would buy him breakfast or lunch, and he was always so polite. I found out a bit about him, that he came from up north (I think he was an Aboriginal, now that I think of it) and had had a falling out with his family. We gave him hampers at christmas. he was never any problem. I wish I could have done more for him. When I am in Indonesia, there are homeless everywhere. If they are children or old people, I try to befriend them and find out why they are there. Some are being exploited by "bosses" who get them to beg and take most of the money. If I think someone wants help, I alert my friends (locals) and they see what they can do. Breaks your heart. The Bali church is trying to get to the source of the problem, by working in villages where the children are being taken from, and providing help for the families.

No. But it is an issue even in rich countries.

I was for a few months by choice. I lived in a tent and on a friends sailboat. It was ok until all my gear was stolen and all they left were raw potatoes and nothing to cook them in. That really sucked so I swallowed my pride and went back to my folks house. I was 18 and was trying to "find myself".

I've been close quite a few times in the past but luckily i always found a way...or had a friend that would put me up for a night, until i could sort something out the next day, my survival instinct won't allow me to become homeless :)
-
I was, but not for very long. I ran away with my sister, and so it was only temporary. We crashed on our friend's garage floor, and would hitch rides with people who looked honest enough. We went home soon after that.
-
Yes. I lived in a tent in the woods at one point, and in my car for quite a few months before that. It definitely sucked, but people I knew would let me come over and wash clothes and take showers. I had a few friends invite me to stay with them, but I didn't want to be a burden to anyone so I just dealt with it on my own.

Yes to both questions

Yes, and it was by choice. Go figure and here's what went on: He and I worked at the same job. $9 an hour for the work, he worked NO overtime and biked in 7 miles one way every day. He lived on county property, in a hidden section. Paid NO rent, or taxes except out of his paycheck. He had a tent, sleeping bag and some cooking utensils. I worked all the OT I could get, paid $450 montly rent and 1/3 utilties. I had no savings, and he had some, but not alot. He actually LIKED living that way. I asked him if he ever thought about making a tunnel just in case weather got really bad. He said he wouldn't, he knew another guy who had it collapse on him. They didn't find him for 3 months...Ewwww.. But he was getting by last I heard...
