  • would be expensive and you would need a doner car. learn to drive the stick it's more fun anyway !
  • I wouldn't wasted the time or money to convert to an automatic. You get more performance, efficiency and fun out of a manual. Converting it would run you a few thousand if you paid a mechanic to do it.
  • Do yourself a favor, keep the manual, if I remember correctly Volkswagon only made two years of the beetle with the automatic, it was so problemmatic they stopped doing it. the manual in a beetle is proven to outlast the car; the good thing is the automatic used a bendix starter that requires no end bushing to be installed in the transmission, there were three different size bushings to that require a special tool to install it; next time your starter goes tits up just order one for an automatic, theyll know what your talking about.
  • Once you learn how to drive a VW manual, you would never want to drive an automatic. The VW manual was one of the strongest transmissions ever built in a small car.
