  • I can't say I know vinegar will work for sure on trumpets. I do know that vinegar works wonders cleaning stainless steel steam pots.
  • Brass is often coated with a lacquer to prevent tarnish. It is safest to clean such surfaces with a damp cloth only, however I suspect that is what you have tried unsuccessfully. Considering the nature of your brass, it may not be lacquered and an ordinary brass cleaner will help. If you find that the brass cleaner does remove a coating you can always re-coat it with a spray lacquer for metal. Check the lacquer instruction to assure that it is safe for contact with your mouth.
