You shouldn't leave your dog out when you know you are expecting a package. Speaking as a former delivery truck driver (for part of a year after college), I can tell you that I met up with some pretty threatening dogs. There were a few places where I just left the package on the lawn, because I didn't dare approach the house. I'm sorry, but my safety came before that person's package. I went out of my way to try to give good service. I'm a dog lover, and there were a few places where I had to stop my van and put someone's dog back inside the invisible fence after they charged through it, chasing me. As long as the dog wasn't aggressive toward me, I'd do that. Sometimes we think our dogs wouldn't do such a thing, but they behave differently when we aren't home than when we are. My own lovely Labrador will gnash her teeth viciously against the fence if she thinks someone is going to try to get in our house. If you don't want a delivery driver to chuck rocks at your dog, get them to deliver your package to a neighbor, to your workplace, to your spouse's workplace or just put the dog inside when you know they are coming. They have a right to be safe. If you don't, don't be surprised if they roll down the window and toss your package out on the lawn instead of putting it safely on your porch. I know I did. It beats ending up in the hospital.
