I didn't know that they should do that. I've never ever had someone ask for my ID when using credit cards. Intresting Dodger Dude!!! Thanks! +5

No, but I bought a malt beer yesterday (for some beer batter fish and chips), it was my first time buying alcohol since I turned 21 and I wasn't asked for ID! I thought I am only 21 and they think I look old?

That is why I have "Ask For ID" written on the back of all of my credit cards ; instead of my name .... However; with all this swiping machines etc .. a person seldoms sees the card anyway ...
-
Of course not. I knew there was no need to check.
-
Yes. Most of the time they don't. But when someone does, I always thank them for checking.

You dont have to do that in my country. I never ever asked anyone for id when i worked in a shop. That would just never work. Good idea but would never work.

I think we should be asked. But... No, it did not bother me at all. The credit card companies discourage merchants from asking for ID. Look at this link, it is the VISA merchants agreement. See page 29. http://usa.visa.com/download/merchants/rules_for_visa_merchants.pdf When should you ask a cardholder for an official government ID? Although Visa rules do not preclude merchants from asking for cardholder ID, merchants cannot make an ID a condition of acceptance. Therefore, merchants cannot refuse to complete a purchase transaction because a cardholder refuses to provide ID. Visa believes merchants should not ask for ID as part of their regular card acceptance procedures. Laws in several states also make it illegal for merchants to write a cardholder’s personal information, such as an address or phone number, on a sales receipt.
