Maybe he was walked, hit by a pitch or got on base via an error?

Well the pitcher did walk 5 batters during the game, but walks don't count as at bats. So if no one got a hit, why didn't the batter's averages change? Thanx for your answer.

Batting averages are only affected by if you get a base hit or if you get an out. Anything else wouldn't affect it. It would affect his on base percentage if he reached via an error or fielders choice (which wouldn't have any bearing on batting average because its not a base hit). Base hits are singles, doubles, triples and home runs.
