  • When you swapped out that drive, you may have inadvertently pulled a ribbon or power cable off your HD. Check that they're seated correctly. The other thing I'd check, is that cd drive you installed is configured properly. Have a look at the old one. On the back you'll see a black plastic jumper cap, with three possible positions. CSL, SL, MA. Make sure that your new drive has that jumper in the same spot as your old one and you've hooked the ribbon cable back using the same connector, if there's more than one connector on the drive end of the cable. If that CD is fighting for bandwidth and boot priority with the HD your OS is on, you'll be having the issue you describe as well.
