Oh, two or three minutes at best...

We'll only go to war with them if they launch a major attack us or SK first. NK has always been provocative, but containing them has always been a lot less horrible than a war would be.
-
We would have seen the out break had Bush been still there.
-
Not long at all if they did something stupid.

The US government will go to war and force the American military to go be slaughtered and be used as canon fodder in yet another conflict in violation of the Constitution of the USA. When will people learn? http://www.brasschecktv.com/page/635.html http://www.brasschecktv.com/page/188.html http://www.brasschecktv.com/page/624.html

In a very real sense, we haven't NOT been at war with North Korea for more than a half century. Bear in mind that the active conflict in Korea ended with a negotiated cease-fire -- there has never been a peace treaty. The armistice was between North Korea and the United Nations. South Korea refused to sign. So, arguably, we've never stopped being at war with North Korea. We've just had a cease-fire in place since 1957. The North Koreans announced last week (5/27/09) that they were unilaterally withdrawing from the truce, so even that isn't technically in force at the moment. And since that came at the same time that they conducted a second nuclear weapons test, and multiple tests of long- and medium-range missles, that whole warm fuzzy feeling in East Asia has kind of evaporated. One point to keep an eye on -- when the United Nations authorized intervention against the North in the early 1950's, China's permanent seat on the UN Security Council (and its veto power) was held by Taiwan. In today's UN, that veto power is held by the People's Republic of China. This is one of the reasons that what China does and what China says draws so much attention -- they have more influence over the North Korean government than anybody else (and even that isn't much). But if it came to a resumption of hostilities, whoever starts it, it is unknown what China would do in response to a proposal to resume fighting by UN (mostly US) forces on the peninsula. +4 for a very interesting question.

We won't. North Korea can't take on the UN.

Thanks, Noldea831. The points are nice, and appreciated, but the compliment means more. :-)

as soon as the one in iraq's done :(

Depends on how crazy the NK's are. Essentially they're signing their own death warrant with all this sabre rattling and isolationism.
-
It wouldn't surprise me to see us at war with them by the end of summer .... I say instead of sending our men and women over there to get killed like we have in Iraq etc .... That we send a couple of ATOMIC - Necular BOMBS and drop them on the Capitol .... I wonder how long it would take then for a white flag to go UP ....
-
I would suppose whenever it becomes economically viable for the US to invade. It only takes some neoliberal or neoconservative with shares in the right company to put forward the right thesis.
-
But North Korea doesn't have any oil.
-
It won't happen. They couldn't deal with us cutting them off economically.
-
I will not happen, nor would it be wise to do so.
