Saving as in energy demanded and consummed in cities and towns, especially electricity. The theory is that by setting the clock forward one hour you're having one more hour of daylight each day, thus delaying the need to turn on lights in homes, offices, public areas. There is still controversy about this practice. Some people say the savings aren't that great and there are inconviniences to merit it, others differ and defend its practice. I have always believed daylight savings time was instituted to extend the daylight at the end of the day to assist farmers in planting, tending and harvesting their fields.

I agree with Barcaluv..but I also heard that it was for the farmers. They needed more daylight to get chores done and have it not get too late....I don't know. Something about the farmers.
