  • What I really don't get, is why use punishment to deter something that already happened? Jail time is never intended to be a deterrent. The courts think it is, that's why they give you more time if they think you'll do it again.. but if it were truly a deterrent, they would give you jail time for expressing a wish to do something illegal--which they aren't allowed to do. I've said before, the entire court and jail system is ridiculously illogical.
  • There will allways have to be laws because people will allways act for themselves and their families rather than the 'greater good'. As much as doing justice is nice and provides people with fullfillment and somehow enriches them and can make them more happy, no one person can control the world and number one and those who are important to us matter the most. Most criminals have a low level of education and lower than average IQ or they would not realise the cons of commiting the crime and the shame it can cause their families outweigh the pros. Some people can also become addicted to commiting crimes and some people have criminal minds. Out of people in prisons over two thirds either have psychopathic personalities or cannot read or write properly.
