  • From the Book of Exodus: 21:23 And if any mischief follow, then thou shalt give life for life, 21:24 Eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, 21:25 Burning for burning, wound for wound, stripe for stripe.
  • Exodus 21:24 Eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, 25 Burning for burning, wound for wound, stripe for stripe. -- Deuteronomy 19:21 And thine eye shall not pity; but life shall go for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot. -- Leviticus 24:19 And if a man cause a blemish in his neighbor; as he hath done, so shall it be done to him; 20 Breach for breach, eye for eye, tooth for tooth: as he hath caused a blemish in a man, so shall it be done to him again
  • "Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth: But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also. And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have *thy* cloak also. And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain. Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away." - Matthew 5:38-42 (KJV)
  • Yes, as indicated by the previous answer. The most misunderstood passage in the Bible that many have taken to mean an "entitlement" to revenge, whereas it is about proportionality. If you pinch my wallet I might pinch yours, but not kill your wife and cut off your legs! We are not even supposed to take revenge (proportionate or not) but forgive our enemies.
  • Sounds mean. I vote 'yes'!
  • K, i dunno what everyone else wrotebut I've heard it means that it's not actually literal but if sum1 by mistake lets say injures a persons eye they have to pay all the damages that it caused. Such as medical bills. Paying him for what he lost out on his job etc...
