I'm not sure opposition is the right word in this case. I think it's fair to say he feels that spiritual feelings originate in the imagination rather than they are a sense of something "out there". And he *may* be opposed to public expressions of such feelings because he writes that even moderate expressions of faith and religion are bad because they provide "cover" for the more extreme ones. But I'm a bit on a limb on that - I'm not sure. +5
