On what basis, answers posted to a question are sorted?

Points, and which was most recent. Top answers go to the answers with the most points and if there are no points given, then it goes to most recent.

I think the latest answer goes to the top of the list unless other answers have already been rated, then the last answer goes to the top of the unrated answers Hope that is clear:)

Answers are rated from highest rated to lowest rated. When two answers have the same rating, the answers are ordered from the most recent answer at the top, to the oldest answer at the bottom.
