What type of punishment would someone get if they stole something out a grocery store (something simple) and its their first time being in trouble?

    What country do you live in? If its the UK you'll get away with a slap on the wrist.

    That would probably be labeled petty larceny. Depending on whether you are legal (18+), you could end up with loads of community service or juvy time.

    Some countries if you steal they cut off your finger or something like that, or they cut off the hand you used to steal with.
