  • interesting question... i think the two exist in peoples minds as truth inderendent of one another. i dont necessarily think theres a link between the two...but maybe we're not talking about the same god.
  • I think only God knows that truth.
  • Naah... people will just say God made them too! The truth is not for everyone. 'Sometimes the less I know, the better...'
  • What a great question! I think it is probably unlikely we will ever understand God. If you go on Lloyd Pye's theories (and what the X-Files suggested), then even if the aliens were God, we still wouldn't have a chance. In his book, we are a slave race, never meant to stand as equals with the Creator.
  • Imagine that E.T.'s came down to earth in their space ship in front of the whole world and said: "There is no God as you understand it. You've just misunderstood consciousness, which is a fundamental part of the universe. What you perceive as God is merely the collective consciousness of your world and whatever else you can perceive." What would change? Would we then drop religions and believe the creature? Would we then "understand God?" What it comes down to is this: It's not a matter of evidence, it's a matter of belief.
  • No. Because that time would never come, and I DO believe their is life elsewhere in our universe. Just not of the imaginary kind.
  • I theorize that the subject of God and ET intelligence is less complicated than people generally seem to think. And a lot closer to us than we assume. I side with those who say that if aliens exist close to us, then they most likely originated on this planet. On that basis, I would say Atlantean's, with their reported advancements, represent the best probability as the source civilization. I like that you tie the understanding of God to all of this, because I would guess that the island paradise reported in Atlantean theories is the same island paradise from which the Adam and Eve story originates. The island mentioned in all of these stories is volcanic, as much as it is beautiful and enticing. I would bet that understanding God preceed's understanding the existence of life outside our world.
  • Somehow I doubt we'll ever have a completely definitive understanding of God -- the finite understanding the infinite is a bit of a stretch. :-) Doesn't mean, of course, that we should stop trying. And understanding the place that life holds in the Universe is a great big important box on the To Do list that we'll hopefully be able to check at some point.
  • If extra terrestial life was confirmed, and was abundant...I don't think there would be any room for god. If you think about it, what right and what chances would humans have preaching the gospel to an alien race? They would have their own beleif system, and unless we wanted to look even more primitive in their eyes, I think the harboured human religious aspect would have to take a permanent back seat.
  • Luke 16:29 Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. 16:30 And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent. 16:31 And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead. Luke 13:3 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. 13:5 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.
