  • There aren't many of those left and the ones that remain tend to be high-end and out of my budget. I can't eat out anymore anyway, as I'm allergic to too many foods to eat out safely. But I mourn the passing of the mom and pop. We are losing so much ethnic and local cuisine and with it, much local culture and history. Mexican and Chinese immigrants still have mom and pop restaurants, but so many other immigrant groups have moved on and aren't doing that anymore. They weren't allowed to sell beer where they were, but they could give it away. Where I live now, there are very few family restaurants. The ones that do exist tend to cater to wealthy folks. There are 4 mom and pop Mexican restaurant, and I ate at one often until I found out I am allergic to beans. There a few Chinese mom and pops, but I'm allergic to sesame seeds. There aren't any offering local cuisine.
