  • Sure, particularly, when you steal it from the church
  • It's OK when it's legal.
  • If necessity calls for it, such as starvation of the self or someone who cannot procure it for themselves such as a child, not only should it be okay to steal it, it should be given to the person. Sure, people have to work for their things, but plenty of times all resources are absent, and this happens much too often. I'm of the mind that everyone should at least have enough food, medical care and a roof over their heads...but the world would end if things went my way I guess. That, and corporations usually have much more than they'll ever need, so I don't think giving some bread here and there is going to hurt them. But as they say, Bill Gates didn't get rich by signing cheques, so...:/
  • From a utilitarian point of view, it is "ok" if greater happiness is resulted by the theft. I would generally agree with this. If I had to steal bread to keep my family from starving, I'm going to develop some sticky fingers.
  • Thou shall not steal, but I suppose if I was starving and there was bread there I would steal a few bites.
  • No. Better a beggar than a thief.
  • I stole my coworkers tortilla today because if I didn't eat it it would have been rotten by Monday. So therefore, only if it was abandoned in the fridge on a Friday morning. +2

  • It is never legal to steal...but ethically? well....if my children were starving....
  • Stealing is never a good first option. It's better to buy bread with bread, but buy the cheap stuff so it doesn't cost you a lot of dough.
  • The real question here is "what is the greater sin, letting your family starve, or stealing the bread?" If there is ABSOLUTELY no other way to feed your family and they are literally starving, I feel the lesser of two evils would be to take the bread. This is one of those things that is easy to talk about, but if put in the position, you might change viewpoints.
  • It's never okay to steal anything. If you need bread that bad, tell people your situation and ask around. Before you know it, you will have legally obtained free bread.
  • It is when you are starving and have no other options. Although if someone was honestly starving, i would buy them some bread rather than them have to resort to stealing it... I dont think anyone would do the same for me, so i would have to knick it.
  • Did you just finish reading Les Miserables by any chance?
