It was a big part of a previous job in the mid nineties, I was put on a computer literacy course to improve my communication skills, the rest is history!! ;-)

On the diningroom table. My mother taught me on her portable typewriter.

The computer. Our reeeeeeally old computer. I mean 5 1/2 inch floppy old. Now I'm rather good at it, touch-typing ftw!
-
On an old-fashioned typewriter, in the 1960's - my dad had me practicing the "QWERTY" method with various exercises when I was in grade school, and then in the 7th grade (my first year of junior high) in 1967 or so, I had a typing class so I had a "head start." In my daytime secretarial job, I type a great deal and am at about 70 wpm, maybe more - I guess I should type faster, but I never got to be one of those super-fast typists. But my skills get me by sufficiently well!

I learned to type back in the 2nd grade. My school was about to get computers and knew that typing was *essential* to computers, so they took their best and brightest student (me) and set them down in front of an old, manual typewriter to learn the fundamentals of a keyboard. A few months later, I was programming in BASIC on a TRS-80, then an Apple ][. My penmanship hasn't improved much since the 4th grade (early-80s), but I can type *quite* well. I have had teachers request that I (and only me) submit stuff either typewritten or computer-printed as a result.

High school way back before the PC age. I got up to 60+ wpm and am faster now.
-
High School about 1972 manual type, no electric and no PC either in our High School but I really didn't get any speed at it till later yrs when the skills were needed.
