When is it reasonable, if at all, to use corporal punishment in child rearing? That is a question you might consider. Beating conveys a heightened sense of violence. ALL PARENTS do not beat their kids.
-
Many parents hit their kids, but many don't. I think it's absolutely terrible to hit a kid. As a grown up, I still remember being hit, and emotional scars remain. I tried talking to my parents about this, but they won't admit to this. I remember being hit with a belt many times and having welts from it. I felt too ashamed at the time to do anything about it (i.e. call police, talk to a counselor at school, etc.). Now as a grown-up, it still haunts me, and I've distanced myself from my parents. *** For any parents reading this, PLEASE don't hit your kids, and think about the future ramifications !!! *** By the way, this is a very good question to ask. Most people just brush this sort of thing under the rug.

My parents spanked me quite a bit as a child. when my younger sister came along, she got spanked less, and my youngest sister has never gotten spanked. But that is not really beating. I am never going to hit my future children.
