If he uses the word "cute" I might first think he's gay. Regardless I would be flattered and say thank you .

Depending if i thought he was cute or not would determine how i would answer that comment. i would probably just say thanks and keep on walking. to me thats not a real conversation starter

I would think it is odd since is someone I don't know. And I'd also think him using the word cute was a bit odd, but think I would just tell him thank you.

I would say thank you and carry on walking. Its not weird, and its nice for them to say but I would be thinking "what do you expect me to say to that?".
