Under-river tunnels all have pumps which are continuously available, if not continuously running. And yes, if the pumps fail, the tunnel floods. But people don't realise how many hidden pumps there are. Ordinary sewers, if they do not run downhill, need pumps every half mile or so because they need a gradient to keep flowing. I imagine that the tunnel section is, as is usually the case, below the river bed and hence fairly safe from ships. And the bit where bridge turns to tunnel looks pretty well defended to me. If they make the riverbed slope up to it, any ship beg enough to do any damage will go aground before it gets there.

There is no tunnel-it's a trick. The cars going in get pulverized and dumped into the river. The cars coming out are like the clown car at the circus. So there's nothing to worry about.
