We have a cat named Tigger. We had two hummingbird feeders here and when we first moved in to this place we bought some food and put it in the feeders...within a week Tigger had killed two of the birds so we no longer have feeders..we don't want any more deaths on our watch. :(

1 part sugar/4 parts water Boil the water first, then measure and add sugar, at the rate of 1/4 cup of sugar to 1 cup of water. Let cool and store excess in refrigerator until ready to use. Do not add food coloring, honey (which ferments), or artificial sweetener, which has no nutritional value.

The best ratio is 1 part white, granulated sugar to 4 parts water 1. Make sure your feeder is cleaned thoroughly before adding new solution. 2. Boil 1 cup of water. 3. Stir 1/4 cup of white granulated sugar into the 1 cup of heated water. 4. Stir until sugar dissolves. 5. Cool. Any leftover nectar can be stored in the refrigerator for 2 weeks. It is unnecessary to add coloring as it's your feeder that should be red or have red on it and not the liquid. TO increase usage of your feeder, string long red tales of ribbon and they will come in droves.
