Well technically, there aren't. The year is the number of times the Earth rotates on it's axis in the time it takes to go around the sun once. It's not arbitrarily chosen by humans, it's a function of the orbit and spin of the Earth. The actually value isn't 365, it's something like 365.24932565 days. This is why we have leap year every 4 years, to adjust for the "missing" 1/4 day from each year. But it's more complex than that, because we skip a leap year every 100 years, put it back in every 400 years, and so forth. It's impossible to remember all the rules, you have to look them up.
